No one was more gutted than us when the plug on Swingamajig was pulled due to problems exacerbated by the Rainbow Venues having its license revoked by a short sighted local authority. We’re promised it’ll be back next year but in the meantime the huge electro-swing speakeasy void in our calendars has been filled by a one off party on the same night at one of Digbeth’s coolest venues, Boxxed. Ladies and Gentlemen we give you the Swingamajig Speakeasy Spectacular. The steampunk wonderland lives on just in a more condensed form, fun sized if you will. Many of the live acts from the original event are retained such as the swinging Electric Swing Circus, the rollicking gypsy rockabilly of The Rin Tins and the riotous rock and roll of Birmingham’s own devil in a push up bra, Harry Jordan and her Howlers, but we’re most excited for the eclectic funky retro mentalism of Hong Kong Ping Pong. Expect an eclectically ragtag selection of vintage, street food and wandering cabaret. So top hats and flapper dresses at the ready, dressing up is essential (not compulsory), Lindy Hop toes set to flamboyant, it’s time to start swinging.
