With a name like ‘Sudanese Kitchen – Straight Outta Khartoum’, you know something has got to be up. This pop-up event by the Sudanese Kitchen at the Hare and Hounds is set to be a delicious education in food. Try delights including Adas شوربة عدس, a red lentil soup infused with garlic, cumin and lime and Agashé أقاشي, which are lamb skewers in a spiced peanut marinade. The dessert is Kunafa كنافة بالجبنة, a cheese pastry soaked in syrup and drinks include Karkade كركديه, a red hibiscus drink and Tabaldi تبلدي a Baobabs fruit drink. Considering we had to look up most of these items, it’s safe to say that you don’t get this kind of cuisine very often in Birmingham so we suggest you get it while it’s hot-ly hiding in mouthwatering plain sight. In some kind of synchronised cultural coup, the H&H has also booked Sudan’s rising stars of the music world Sinkane (not included in Pop-up price, ticket offer here) on the same night, so the whole experience can involve a cultural education through sweet music and delicious food – and really, isn’t that what living in a big, multicultural city like Birmingham is all about?
