The Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival lineup is in and boy is it a belter. Once again the organisers have managed to trump previous lineups, every year they manage to pull a new legend out of a very deep musical hat. Well this year make that numerous legends, an astonishing who’s who of soul and funk history will be sharing Moseley Park with the good citizens of Birmingham and beyond for one weekend in July. If the sun shines as it did last year (and of course it will) there is no other festival in the Midlands, nay the UK, as cool as Mostly. Starring are Philadelphia’s disco siblings Sister Sledge, for five decades Kim and Debbie have been strutting the world with classics like ‘We Are Family’. Also appearing are four times Grammy Award nominated Candi Staton, jazz legend Roy Ayers, reggae hero Jimmy Cliff and hip-hop pioneers The Jungle Brothers. Festival curator and affable scouser Craig Charles is once again on emcee duties; we suggest checking out who else is on as it’s an incredible weekend of talent, getting a ticket quickly, it will sell out, and preparing yourselves for the best festival of the summer, and it’s on your doorstep.
