Folktronica songstress Beth Orton released her critically acclaimed new album Kidsticks in May, marking a certain reboot of her sound. Co-produced by Andrew Hung of Fuck Buttons there are more loops, synths and driving bass than ever before. Orton’s beautiful soulful voice is the foundation upon which Hung hangs his various bells and whistles, but even without instrumentation her voice would charm. Our favourite track is ‘Dawnstar’, a dreamy spaced out swirl of romance for hearts to melt into. ‘Our love is gaining speed.’ Revered by her peers Orton is a class apart from her contemporaries and a joy live. Highly recommended!
