As part of Digbeth First Friday, Vivid Projects will be opening up its doors to a live polar bear. Confused? This audience participatory piece by Jamal Harewood, who will be allowing you to get up close and personal with this weird creature, albeit a man in a suit and metaphor for race. Harewood’s work allows you to get acquainted with the issues which surround it on a completely boundary-crossing level. Exploring themes of identity and community, much like Bangura’s work, Harewood’s ‘The Privileged’ hopes to give us a further insight into these current issues. Whether that’s sharing empathy with those who experience racism, or acting as an eye-opener for those who do not, ‘The Privileged’ should hopefully further our understanding and realisation of these issues. The bears black skin, masked with its white fur is the perfect image which Harewood will use to explore these ideas.
Fri 3 Nov. Vivid Projects, 16 Minerva Works, 158 Fazeley Street, Digbeth, B5 5RS. 7pm-9pm. £5.90. 16+. Booking essential. www.vividprojects.org.uk
