The festive season may have well and truly arrived in Birmingham city centre, but the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery are gearing up for celebrations of a very different kind with internationally feted artist Ryan Gander’s arrival in the city. A darling of the current contemporary British art scene, November’s In Conversation event offers the chance to listen to the artist discuss his curation of the Arts Council Collection’s pieces in his Night in the Museum exhibition, The exhibition will represent the work of over thirty artists, including Reg Butler, Patrick Caulfield, Jacob Epstein, Roger Hiorns, Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson, Kerry Stewart, Wolfgang Tillmans and Rebecca Warren. Also included are major loans of work by artists including Angela Bulloch, Matthew Darbyshire, Mario García Torres and Thomas Houseago. Questioning the very act of experiencing art, Gander positions figures in various poses as though they too are observing the pieces, all of which are linked by the colour blue. The exhibition will run until February 12th 2017 at BMAG.

BMAG is also hosting an Art Lates: Bubbles & Blues event on Saturday the 3rd of December. As well as the chance to catch Night and the Museum exhibition after hours, this event includes the chance to meet with the museum’s curator of modern art Lisa Beauchamp, enjoy the live music of local talent Christina Shergold and a glass of Three Choirs Vineyard’s sparkling wine to keep you merry and bright. Booking in advance is required.
