A brand-new food hall filled with independent food and drink traders is set to open in Birmingham this autumn.
Society Birmingham, which will take over a huge 9,000 sq ft unit at One Colmore Square, has confirmed it will officially open to the public on Fri 5 Sep.
The space will be home to five independent kitchens, including Shokupan, which serves up expertly crafted Japanese sandos and melts, Manzoku’s pan-Asian street food style dishes, and Slap & Pickle will offer signature 40-day dry-aged smash burgers and loaded fries.
The much-loved Birmingham-based Amore Pizza will also set up a new home in Society, specialising in traditional Neapolitan style pizzas, and The Coffee Bar Collective will provide a caffeine fix, working with small-scale farmers, roasters and artisans on their specialty coffees, pastries and small plates.
The Society bar will become the centrepiece within the space, and guests can expect to see a curated beer and cider collection encompassing the best that Birmingham, the UK and further afield has to offer, pitching local brews such as Glasshouse and Attic next to the likes of Deya, Verdant and Track.
Wine and cocktails will also play a big part, with wines from established and emerging regions, including low-intervention and natural wines.
Nick Gregory, co-founder of Society, says, “Following the success of Society in Manchester, we can’t wait to open in Birmingham. Society is about creating a place where people can come together in an atmosphere that naturally evolves throughout the day – from breakfast, lunch right through to evening drinks and DJs.”
Richard Sweet, co-founder of Society says, “We want to bring five quality, independent food traders to the site and we’re so pleased local heroes are included in the lineup as Birmingham has such a thriving street food scene with some superb food on offer. With each of the food traders having a permanent kitchen, it will be a great opportunity for local, independent businesses in a prime city-centre site.”
Society opened its first location in Manchester back in 2021 — a concept which has proved a huge hit in the city.
The Birmingham iteration will feature an open-plan dining hall with ‘stripped-back features and high ceilings contrasted with warm and vibrant greenery’ and an outdoor terrace, with space for 350 people. An intimate events space will also be available to book for private dining.
