A beloved Birmingham neighbourhood cocktail bar has been named the best in the UK.

On Tue 10 Feb, the prestigious Franklin & Sons-sponsored rankings were unveiled, with Couch in Stirchley taking the top spot of the 50.

Since opening its doors in 2019, Couch has featured in the rankings for the last five years, jumping up from fourth spot last year to scoop the top accolade.

Describing the walk-in only spot, the guide wrote: “Expect handcrafted cocktails inspired by films, with each drink based on iconic movies, while there is also a curated wine list and a rotating special cocktail on draught.”

Bar Glue in Liverpool finished second in the rankings, with last year’s winner, London-based Satan’s Whiskers, third. The Brain Jar in Hull (4th) and Waltz, also in the capital, completed the top 5.

Despite being closed at the moment, there was also a spot for Birmingham’s award-winning Passing Fancies, which came in at 16th. The team are currently running a residency at 24 Stories, with plans to open a new spot in the Jewellery Quarter in the pipeline.
