On Mon 9 Feb, the 2026 Michelin Guide ceremony was held in Dublin, and one of Birmingham’s most celebrated restaurants bagged its first Michelin Star at the awards.
Jewellery Quarter spot, The Wilderness, which is headed up by renowned chef Alex Claridge, was one of 20 recipients of a Michelin star on the night. Claridge also operates the 14-seat fine dining spot, Albatross Death Cult, which was recently named amongst the UK’s best in the prestigious Harden’s Top 100.
The Wilderness describes itself as ‘rock and roll fine dining’ and serves ‘provocative, playful tasting menus in a restored factory set to the soundtrack of rock, punk and heavy metal.’ It joins Edgbaston’s Adams and Simpson’s in holding Michelin’s top accolade, with Indian fine dining spot Opheem holding two stars.
Nearby, Lichfield also gained a new Michelin Star, with Liam Dillon’s The Boat celebrated at Monday’s ceremony, joining Tom Shepherd’s Upstairs, which was awarded a star back in 2022.
