A new exhibition coming to the RBSA Gallery celebrates an exciting collaboration between the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and the Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Ahead of Drawn to Dance: The Figure In Motion, RBSA Members were invited to study the dancers as they worked, sitting in on a series of rehearsals. Members working in all disciplines, both 2D and 3D created collections of preparatory sketches and photographs which will sit alongside the artworks they informed at the gallery.
The varied work explores the movement and poise of the ballet dancer, offering visitors a unique and rare insight into the artists’ process as well as the backstage world of ballet.
As well as works from RBSA Members, Associates, and Graduate Artists, guest artworks from renowned stage designer, John Macfarlane, backstage photographs taken by RBSA Associate and BRB Principal Dancer, Lachlan Monaghan, and artworks by Birmingham Royal Ballet dancers will be on show.
Visitors will also be given the opportunity to view classical ballet costumes and rarely seen items on loan from Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Drawn To Dance: The Figure In Motion runs from Tue 10 Feb – Sat 21 Feb. Find more information here.
