Birmingham’s Moseley Folk and Arts Festival has revealed The Longest Johns as the headline act for the first of their forthcoming 20th anniversary All-Dayers.

Taking place at The Crossing on Sat 29 Nov, the event will see various acts associated with the end-of-summer festival take to the stage. Further special guests – along with details of a second All-Dayer – will be announced soon.

Having bonded over sea shanties in their native Bristol a decade ago, The Longest Johns – Jonathan ‘JD’ Darley, Andy Yates and Robbie Sattin – have reimagined many of folk’s classic songs while adding their own unique style of songwriting to keep the tradition alive.

In 2025 the group released two acclaimed collections, Voyage and Caught In The Net Vol.1, while their latest release is the three-track Folly – the seventh instalment of their Pieces Of Eight monthly series.

Currently touring the US with American a cappella group Home Free, The Longest Johns previously appeared on the main stage at Moseley Folk and Arts Festival in 2022.

Since debuting in 2005, Birmingham’s outdoor Moseley Folk and Arts Festival has welcomed appearances from the likes of Jethro Tull, Supergrass, Billy Bragg, Jake Bugg, Don Mclean, The Monkees, Davy Graham, The Dubliners, Tinariwen, Johnny Marr, Richard Thompson, Saint Etienne, Incredible Sting Band, Pentangle, Laura Marling, Belle and Sebastian, CMAT and Wilco. This year saw lauded appearances from The Waterboys, Father John Misty and Doves.

Next year sees the festival celebrate its 20th birthday, running from Fri 4 Sep – Sun 6 Sep.

John Fell, Moseley Folk and Arts Festival’s Manager, said: “We’re very excited to welcome back The Longest Johns as headliners for our first ever All-Dayer. They were one of the stand-out acts back in 2022 and their boisterous enthusiasm and love for the shanty form is utterly infectious.

“We’ll be adding more acts to the first Moseley Folk All-Dayer bill soon, as well as revealing details of our second all day event, and it won’t be long before we reveal some of the headliners for 2026’s main festival too. We can’t wait to celebrate Moseley Folk and Arts Festival’s birthday – it’s going to be a big year.”
