Birmingham cult favourite Indian Café Racer has opened the doors to its brand-new home.

The much-loved restaurant has made its long-anticipated move to larger premises on Bristol Street.

Originally launched in 2022 from the back of The Wellington pub, the popular spot has outgrown its original space and has now relocated to a 65-cover restaurant just up the road to meet demand.

Boses say the new location at 88–90 Bristol Street promises to keep the same bold flavours and charming atmosphere that made the original a hit, while offering more space for loyal regulars and first-time diners.

Founder Azad Kayes grew up in a family of restaurateurs. Inspired by a research trip to India, he launched Indian Café Racer during lockdown with a vision to showcase the energy of India’s streets through food, in a relaxed, modern setting.

Fan favourites like Gobi Manchurian, Chicken 65, Lamb Biryani and Rajastani Lamb are still front and centre, along with a batch of new menu additions, including Truffle Paneer Tikka, Juicy Lamb Ribs, Farzi Steak, Mango Fish Curry and Kolkata-style Kosha Murghi.

“We never imagined it would grow this fast,” says founder Azad Kayes. “When we started at the back of a pub during lockdown, it was about getting our food into people’s hands, nothing more. But the support we’ve had from the community has been unreal and this new space is for everyone who has supported us. Our restaurant at The Wellington will remain open, and we’ll be keeping the name Indian Café Racer which fuses the vintage “café racer” motorcycle scene of 1960s Britain and India’s vibrant café culture.”
