A virtual reality experience that immerses visitors in the heart of the Acid House movement comes to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery this July.

In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats will transport guests back to the West Midlands in 1989, when the movement was first taking off.

By combining iconic Acid House tracks with VR multi-sensory stimulation, the experience invites you to explore everything from bedrooms and pirate radio stations to police headquarters and secret warehouses, capturing real-life stories of promoters, police officers and rave-goers.

This VR experience is described as a cinematic documentary adventure set in 1989, where attendees can experience one night during the birth of the Acid House scene through a mix of film, documentary, gaming and art installation.

Sessions last around 40 minutes, and visitors are advised to allow up to 20 minutes following the VR experience to explore the gallery space.

In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats comes to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery from Fri 19 Jul – Sun 1 Sep. Premium tickets (£24.50) allow a free-roaming experience, while standard tickets (£21.50) offer a controller-based experience.
