Elizabete Balčus & Kamura Obscura | Fri 27 Jul | ORT | £6
We have some great venues in the city exploring the wild frontiers of musical expression and this event at Cafe ORT is a real sonic doozy. Latvian artist Elizabete Balčus threads together minutiae symphonies of sound using disparate mediums that are then layered with one of the most haunting voices you will ever hear, her music is lush, deep and profound. An incredibile bill is completed by Kamura Obscura, an experience that features Atsuko Kamura, one half of legendary Japanese popsters and John Peel favourites Frank Chickens, and Birmingham’s own Lai Power.  www.skiddle.com

Palm Reader | Sun 29 Jul | Asylum | £7
On the back of the critically well received album Braille, Palm Reader are finally moving out from being perennially branded as underrated and coming into their own. Pile driving riffs and raw emotional power drive this hardcore juggernaut from the East Midlands. www.eventbrite.co.uk

Earthless | Sun 29 Jul | Hare & Hounds | £14.85
Hailing from San Diego the trippy psychedelic monsters Earthless trade in huge meandering instrumental slabs of switched on noise that recalls The Sabs, Zep and Amon Duul. It’s thunderous simplicity is beguiling and stands head and shoulders above the Stoner Rock contemporaries with which Earthless are sometimes lazily grouped. www.seetickets.com
