Secret City | Sat 7 Apr | Lab11 | £11.25
Over the past few years, Birmingham’s thriving dance scene has continually clashed with the local authorities. The Rainbow Venues’ fight to remain open is without doubt the most high-profile of these instances, but Secret City has been fighting its own battle throughout this struggle. This is because the Secret City concept was founded on staging raves in abandoned buildings, a format that the police were keen to crack down on – but, in response to a deluge of fan mail, Secret City is back. The dress code is still all black, the music is still tech house and minimal, and the Secret City spirit is well and truly still alive. See our feature here. www.skiddle.com

Horse Meat Disco | Sat 7 Apr | Hare & Hounds | £22.25
Disco DJ quartet Horse Meat Disco returns to the Hare and Hounds with plenty of kitsch and plenty of camp, well and truly suited up and rip-roaring ready to embark on a steamy, glitter-fuelled romp through the heady hysteria of golden age New York’s underground dance scene. If you like your disco unconstrained by mainstream standards of acceptability, jam-packed with cheesy lyrics and bursting with deliciously ostentatious solos, this one’s for you. It’s unbelievably good fun; shamelessly over-the-top and proudly polysexual, this truly is a ‘queer party for everyone’ – a safe space for all your retro-tinged, funk-filled needs. www.skiddle.com

Oculus: Andy Styler + ALISHA | Fri 6 Apr | Monastery | from £9.05
Here’s a rarity: a party brand donating all of its profits to charity. That’s right: since its inception in October 2016, Oculus has put on five successful events of its own, collaborated with some of the city’s brightest and best party-starters – and given over £1400 to charity. This time round it’s Cerebral Palsy Midlands on the receiving end, and it’s top class techno troubadour Andy Styler sharing headline duties with rising house star ALISHA. Philanthropy, fun and floor-fillers: what’s not to love? www.skiddle.com

Anomaly + Premonition | Sat 7 Apr | Art.House | £18.40
If you’re big into your trance and hard dance, you might think your musical interests are somewhat overlooked by Birmingham’s dance scene. While that may be true to a point, all is not lost: Anomaly and Premonition have got your back. Sneijder and Cold Blue are the bill-toppers at this one with twin two-hour sets, joined by EverLight, Martin Ford, Skol and more. www.skiddle.com
