Dublin firebrand Rejjie Snow follows his own schedule, ever-delaying his debut album with a string of singles and recent mixtape ‘The Moon & You’ – all of which showcase Grammy-winner Rahki’s drunk-jazz production, close friend King Krule’s hazy influence, and of course Rejjie’s dry, erudite delivery. Irish rap might catch you by surprise, but there’s a familiar and transatlantic feel to Rejjie Snow, in tune with downbeat political artists like Vince Staples and the surrealism of Kool AD. An introspective and cautious figure with little apparent interest in the trappings of fame, nonetheless the underground talent has drawn the approval and backing of luminaries like Kaytranada, Kendrick and, strangely enough, Madonna. Newest single ‘Milk & Honey’ finds the growing phenomenon redefining himself again, only proving all the more his unpredictability and the sheer breadth of his creative universe. The European ‘Dear Annie’ tour is another tease for that debut album; but then the stakes are getting high for this rising talent.
