Set your devices for underground seduction, sex and secrecy as LA artist John Moletress takes over BOM for one tantalising night only as part of SHOUT festival’s more adventurous arts offerings. Untitled Cruising Project is a piece shrouded in secrecy, all we’ve been told is not for forget our digital devices, as they’ll be required to literally command and control John in a digital performance that the audience, shapes, blurring physical and virtual worlds and the realms of online sex forums and former cruising sites. Focusing on the politics of online anonymity, this performance pairs perfectly with Leo Francisco’s (Queerzone 300 & Boy with Wings) Qtopia, using the same space but running from Nov 9 – 18. For Qtopia’s ‘queer hacker den’, we’re invited to challenge the way we think about the internet and making safe spaces online. In this queer hackers paradise we’re offered a counter-narrative to ‘heteronormative and capitalist-driven society’. Leo will be joined by local artists Caleb Steer and Taylor Wells and whether you attend virtually or physically, this is an exhibition that has the potential to shape your future interactions. Birmingham Open Media has become a force majeure within Birmingham’s creative landscape proving time and again that it’s not only here to stay, but to dominate. If you still haven’t stumbled upon its hidden delights, turn left out the main Birmingham New street exit, past The Electric Cinema and tucked away in an underground wonderland, or enter virtually online here.
