A unique voice in Hip-Hop culture, Akala is an experienced and literate artist who constantly inspires and surprises with his imaginative musical choices. Possessed of a powerful political ethos Akala’s work has had an energising effect on his audience as he draws on a raft of influences from sources such as George Orwell in 2010’s ‘Doublethink’ album and the great Bard himself in early single ‘Shakespeare’. There’s a new comic book EP out ‘Visions’ and a Hip Hop inspired children’s book ‘Hip and Hop – You Can Do Anything’. Bet you didn’t see that coming. Last years show at the Institute was a sell out and saw the London rapper take the roof off the venue. Bigger venue this time but we still expect a sell out. An influential and important voice in UK rap.
