We’re all aboard the Centrala community train right now. Centrala’s canalside art space focuses on supporting art from Central, Eastern Europe and offers all sorts of community joys, like an ace cafe with proper Polish Sourdough. Also on offer are late night arts events like this with a fine selection of Craft Beers and Traditional Eastern European Vodkas and Delicacies. The opening features their latest exhibition titled Seventeen, which draws inspiration from the growing lifespan expectancy and reflects on strangely twinned eras of change. The three Russian artists who have created this exhibit Yelena Popova, Nika Neelova and Olga Grotova (pictured) use this theme of a fluctuating point in the past reaching out to an illusive future to create a contemporary state of déjà vu and the idea of a reanimation of time. Using the mediums of video and painting they create a haunting visual impression including Popova’s experiences of growing up in a secret town in the USSR, the site of nuclear production and a radioactive disaster. For this late night event there will be also be films and music inspired by the subject and influences of the exhibition showing in the downstairs gallery.
