CocoMAD at Cotteridge Park
The 20th anniversary of this gorgeous party in Cotteridge park sees music, food and enough good community spirit to warm the cockles whatever the weather, favourite local live music acts fuse a joyous mix of pop, ska, jazz, indie, psychedelia, folk, punk, lounge and more. Highlights this year include The Taskers, The Uke Men League “men, sheds, ukuleles, 1980’s pop, facial hair….what’s not to like,” The Lost Notes, Birmingham Opera Company, High Horses harmony centric folk-rock and Howdy, bab – a local 7-piece band with their quirky versions of songs by The Happy Mondays, Blur, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Oasis, Teenage Fanclub et al. Get down! Note: This event is free but relies heavily on donations.

Moseley Festival at Various venues
The annual celebration and presentation of all things Moseley arrives in all its multicoloured glory this weekend with its colourful contributions to the city. Just a few of this magical mash-up of offerings include: a heaving community street market, open day at the Park Pool (with nigh-on compulsory tea and cakes) performances from local Ukulele stars Moselele, 3 (shockingly good) choirs doing everything from gospel and pop to folk, reggae and world jazz, a viola competition, a gin celebration in The Prince of Wales’ cocktail bar, live music at Pat Kavs, history walks, Brazilian dance and music and Sunday’s Sarehole Mill/Flying Teapot Market & Fair (see separate feature here), various offers at the cafes and restaurants, Moseley’s got Talent and a production of Elmer in St Columba’s church. We need a little sit down now… While most events are free, some require a minimal charge.

Happy Chicken vs The Blues at Hare & Hounds
Saturday sees the arrival of the kings of Korean BBQ at the Hare & Hounds Stables (see our preview here) so you can fill yourself with joyous street eats then head on up to drown your sorrows and sing the blues at the H&H live weekly Blues club with sessions from Birmingham’s foremost Jazz & Blues musicians with DJ’s Dylan Gibbons & Dave Le Moderne playing an eclectic mix of Reggae, Soul and Rhythm & Blues with this week’s special guests Blue Murda, 4pm – 8pm.
