Birmingham is blessed as a city to host one of the UK’s greatest annual film festivals. Flatpack has just celebrated its tenth anniversary. What you might not realise is that they continue to stage a whole raft of activities throughout the year. As part of the City Camp festival (see: here) Flatpack begins a series of free workshops under the ‘Build Your Own Film night’ banner. Organising a film event, without the appropriate guidance, can sometimes feel like an exercise in pointless bureaucratic somnambulism. Let Flatpack hold your hand through every step of the process and give you a lesson in dotting i’s and crossing t’s. Who knows? You could be running your own community film festival in a few years or at least have the confidence to put on a screening of The Sound of Music at your local Darby and Joan Club.

Flatpack also has a presence at the City of Colours Festival where there will be FREE screenings of the locally made short film Tacit (dir: Matt Watkins) featuring Birmingham artist Lucy MacLauchlan (creator of the birds on the recently departed Central Library) plus the Canadian street art documentary Miss Me: The Artful Vandal (dir: Mohammad Gorjestani).
