Music producer, DJ, graffiti artist, actor … Goldie’s list of talents stretches on and on. Rising up out of a troubled childhood with a talent that transcended his tough breaks, Goldie played a central role in the evolution of the style that came to be known as drum and bass, turning his infatuation with the British breakbeat and jungle scenes in the early ‘90s into instant classics such as ‘Terminator’ and ‘Timeless’. Goldie’s recent MBE award is the cherry on top of an already impressive career, a testament to his far-reaching influence and a celebration of a figure who has made something of himself against all the odds. It’s a prototypical rags to riches tale, but admirably the West Midlands man has never once forgotten where he came from, gracing the Hare & Hounds in late June for a lesson in the dark arts of syncopated breakbeats and plummeting sub-bass. With half the tickets to this event already being sold, d’n’b heads are advised to grab a ticket at the earliest available opportunity. This is not one to be missed.
