A neo Surrealist Alice in Wonderland, psychedelic digital billboards, uncomfortable live performance, photographic collages of abandoned Birmingham buildings, it must be time for the New Art West Midlands show. Yes, NAWM has returned, ready to shed light on all the bright new talent the West Midlands has to offer with a carefully curated selection of work from recently graduated art students from five university art schools including Birmingham City University, Wolverhampton University, Coventry and for the first time Hereford College for the Arts. This mixture of contemporary art from sculpture to print, animation to documentary film is always an unmissable show. This year the art falls into themes spread across each venue with Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery’s Waterhall hosting the bright and bold otherworldly collections, The mac offering ecology and the subaquatic world, Wolverhampton Art Gallery offering social and political perspectives and Worcester’s collection explore the world around us from the view outside our windows to astronomy. Our second city is teaming with a conglomeration of creatives and with vast amounts of art to consume created by exciting new talent, the New Art West Midlands show definitely should not disappoint.
