Portal: Skream, Route94 + Doorly | Sat 12 Nov | Rainbow | From £15
Before brostep, before Skrillex, before the post-dubstep stylings of James Blake, there was good old-fashioned dubstep - and there was Skream. From the moment the doors of the Rainbow open at 10pm up until their 6am close, the dubstep pioneer himself will be at the decks in the Blackbox, taking two-stepping clubbers on a wobbly journey through garage, house and helpings of half-time hedonism. Route 94, Doorly, Arun Verone, Rothstein Music, Paradox City and more co-star. See our feature here
Horse Meat Disco + Mark E | Fri 11 Nov | Hare + Hounds | £12.50
Pushing the envelope at the edge of the purported disco revival, the DJ quartet known as Horse Meat Disco reach into the New York club scene of the 80s and 90s to unearth an assortment of retro dance floor fillers. According to member Daniel Wang, HMD sets are invariably full of “classics that you can only get away with in that gay kind of setting”, complete with corny vocal lines and a characteristically camp flavour.
