Atlanta post-punk trio Omni distill the buzz and grit that snakes through the best of Television, Devo, and Pylon into surprisingly danceable, hook-laden slabs of raw, sonic bliss. Shamelessly lo-fi, pinballing guitars bounce from note to note while the motorik rhythm section drive a spike through the Berlin phonebook. Angular, lethally coiled riffs change on a dime, then become locked into This Heat grooves. In other words, Omni are students of the post-punk masters, matching the intensity of their locked-down music with a fiery passion that simmers below the surface. The band have followed up last year’s excellent ‘Deluxe’ LP with a string of stand-alone singles, their wiry sound exemplified perfectly by the jittery, mid-tempo clatter of July single ‘Equestrian.’ With new album ‘Multi-task’ already in the can, Omni are overflowing with ideas, and they’re just getting started.
