Turn the clock back at the Hare and Hounds with a Vindaloo Records special in association with the legendary Birmingham clubs Click and Catapult. Relive that sunshine moment when The Nightingales, Fuzzbox and Ted Chippington all appeared on TV (see below) as the Vindaloo Collective with chart topping hit ‘Rockin’ With Rita’. Indie socialist godfathers The Nightingales have been around for over a hundred years (actual year formed 1979). John Peel favourites and relentless purveyors of rancorous political noise; these lads have been torturing their instruments with malicious, unrelenting and professional zeal for decades, outlasting a raft of wannabees. Never easy for the mainstream to categorise they have ploughed a uniquely ‘Nightingales’ furrow. Robert Lloyd’s sardonic eye and mischievous lyrical turns have kept the band fresh and appealing. Pink noise priestesses Fuzzbox’s peculiar brand of neon fused thrash pop mayhem has lost none of its chewing gum appeal. ‘Pink Sunshine’ is a consummate pop classic with last single ‘Let’s Go Supernova’ showing the magic is still there. Completing the bill is legendary crepes and drapes anti-comedian Ted Chippington, a favourite of Stewart Lee (and us), whose baffling obtuse non-jokes have us in stitches. ‘Aye, good motors, Dilemmas.’ If you were there in the 80’s you’ll get that; if not then lucky you, you’ll get to hear the man of few punchlines for the first time.
